The Virtual Naval Forces

The VNF experience is like no other. The purpose of the group is to bring the best Naval Aviation experience to the FSX community. We begin by teaching you how to operate off of a carrier the most accurate way possible. Learning the Break, cooperation with other VNF pilots, and cooperation with its virtual CVW-11. This is what the VNF is for, to learn what its like to be a Naval pilot through the use of FSX. The VNF brings you as close as possible to real life naval aviation.

There is no age limit, as long as who ever joins is capable of following instructions and able to displaying some level of maturity.

Right or Wrong?

Carrier ops are one of the toughest tasks any Naval Aviator has to perform. Landing an aircraft that weighs 28000 lbs.  at the speed of 150 - 160 mph  on a deck the size of a postage stamp, is not something you can learn to do in a matter of hours. That is why when you're doing carrier ops you have to ask yourself if you're doing them the way they were meant to be done. Here is an outline that can help determine whether you're trapping correctly or not.
  • Enter pattern at 800 ft. ASL, armament switches off
  • Level break
  • set the speed break as required
  • once you begin the first 90, slow down to 250 Knts and lower the gear and flaps and begin to descend to 600 ft. ASL
  • After your first 180 degree turn level off at 600 ft. Stay below 250 Knts.
  • Once you pass the carrier on downwind go through your landing check list.
  • Now you hit DOWNWIND LEG. You should be  1.1 to 1.3 miles abeam
  • Before you begin the second 180 degree turn check that ATC is as you wish and that you are "On Speed" (85-88% RPM)
  • Bank to approximately  a 30 degree angle of bank
  •  once you're past the 90 degree mark you should be at 500 ft ASL and "On Speed" descend as you go.
  • INTERCEPT GLIDE SLOPE at about 3/4 of a mile "On Speed" (85-88% RPM)
  • At this point you will level the wings and hold a pitch of about 4 degrees till you touch down on the postage stamp.
  • Go full throttle seconds before touchdown, pull back on the stick some in case you bolter.
