The USS NimitzThis carrier is used for all VNF operations. I take all of the fleet where ever they want to go. This carrier is capable of holding up 85 aircraft and has a working elevator. The USS Nimitz is where most VNF Aviators are trained and qualified.
Clemenceau R98The French carrier R98. In the VNF the R98 is a very popular carrier among the Officers. The R98 is used to qualify the VERY BEST VNF Aviators. It is sent to discreet war zones all over the world, and operates in all weather conditions (the USS Nimitz does to). Most VNF pilots don't like it because the flight deck is smaller than the CVN 68. It is still used for operations.
Reading the HUDWhen you're 3/4's of a mile from the carrier there are plenty of things you must be aware of. Most people tend to look at where they want to land. When this happens people forget to check therir gauges as they approach the carrier. People usually focus on one thing and just space out on that one thing. Others may get distracted by the objects on deck or to what the LSO is saying. The correct thing to do is to scan the HUD regularly when you're on final. Checkr the speed indicator and make sure its at the appropriate speed for a carrier landing. Check to see that the aircraft is lined up correctly and that you are at a good descent rate. Check the altitude to see if you're to low or to high. If you are too high or too low the correct thing to do is slow down or speed up. Do not change the pitch of the aircraft. Try to hold an AoA between 8.1 and 6.9 degrees, and before you even enter the Break make sure the aircraft fuel and payload is light enough so the aircraft is able to glide a little better. Best way to do this is dump some fuel and get below 65% fuel.
